We recommend that this vial be briefly centrifuged prior to opening to bring the contents to the bottom. Reconstitute in sterile distilled water or aqueous buffer containing 0.1% BSA to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. Stock solutions should be apportioned into working aliquots and stored at ≤ -20°C. Further dilutions should be made in appropriate buffered solutions. |

| Background: |
Maspin, also known as serpin B5, is a non-inhibitory serpin encoded by the SERPINB5 gene in humans. It is primarily expressed in normal mammary epithelial cells but is markedly reduced or absent in most breast carcinomas. Unlike typical active serpins, maspin does not undergo the S (stressed) to R (relaxed) conformational transition necessary for serine protease inhibition. Instead, it functions as a tumor suppressor, inhibiting the growth, invasion, and metastasis of mammary tumors. Maspin exerts its anti-tumor effects by blocking angiogenesis and promoting apoptosis in tumor cells. |
