Background: PreScission Protease is a cysteine protease that comes from the human rhinovirus, more specifically HRV3C Protease. It exists as a fusion protein, creating a partnership between the glutathione S-transferase (GST) and human rhinovirus (HRV) type 14 3C protease. This enzyme is specialized in recognizing and cleaving certain amino acid sequences, particularly the Leu-Phe-Gln-Gly-Pro core site. It executes cleavage specifically between the residues Gln and Gly. In determining what to cleave, this enzyme depends on both the primary structure of the target site as well as the target's larger framework or super structures. PreScission Protease functions optimally at a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius, but can also operate effectively at room temperature.
