Research on Mesenchymal Odontogenic Tumor

Mesenchymal odontogenic tumors are a rare and complex group of odontogenic tumors that originate from the dental mesenchyme or non-dental mesenchyme. These tumors are typically characterized by the presence of hard tissue formation similar to dental tissues. Research on mesenchymal odontogenic tumors is vast, and various subcategories of these tumors have been identified. These include ameloblastic fibroma, odontoma, odontogenic myxoma, cementoblastoma, and cemento-ossifying fibroma, among others. Each of these subtypes has distinct clinical, radiological, and histopathological features.

Despite their relatively benign nature, these tumors can cause significant morbidity due to their locally invasive behavior. Treatment usually involves surgical excision, and the prognosis varies depending on the type of tumor and its location. Contemporary research on mesenchymal odontogenic tumors tends to focus on understanding their molecular and genetic underpinnings to discover better diagnostic tools and develop more effective therapies. For instance, studies have been conducted to explore the immunohistochemical behaviors of these tumors, and identify potential biomarkers, such as Ki-67, P53, and Bcl-2.

Our Services

Mesenchymal odontogenic tumors are derived from the mesenchymal part of the tissues that participate in development of teeth and periodontal tissues, tooth pulp, dentin, root cementum, periodontal ligament and parts of the bony socket that houses the roots of the teeth. Odontogenic epithelial rests may be part of the histologic picture they show, but represent structures only fortuitously engulfed by tumor tissue. They have no neoplastic or inductive potential.

We are pleased to offer comprehensive basic research services focused on mesenchymal odontogenic tumor. Our team of experienced researchers and scientists is dedicated to advancing our understanding of mesenchymal odontogenic tumor through cutting-edge experimental methodologies and techniques.
