Odontogenic tumors (OT) of the jaw are a group of lesions that originate from remnants of epithelium or ectomesenchyme associated with teeth development. It ranges from hamartomas to true tumors. Like normal odontogenesis, the odontogenic tumors represent inductive interactions between odontogenic ectomesenchyme and epithelium. The fourth edition of WHO histological typing of odontogenic tumors classifies them as benign and malignant. Then, they are subdivided according to the cell of origin to epithelial, ectomesenchymal, or mixed.
OT are basically divided into two primary categories; malignant and benign but the etiology is unknown. The majority of benign odontogenic tumors seem to arise de novo, whereas the malignant odontogenic tumors may arise de novo but more often arise from their benign precursor. The classification of odontogenic tumors is essentially based on interactions between odontogenic ectomesenchyme and epithelium.

Odontogenic tumors are uncommon lesions that originate from cells and tissues involved in odontogenesis and from their remnants. These tumors comprise a heterogeneous group of lesions ranging from hamartomatous ones to benign and malignant neoplasms. Odontogenic tumors are classified into epithelial, mesenchymal, and mixed epithelial and mesenchymal tumors based on the odontogenic tissue they mimic. Odontogenic tumor research services are fundamental to understanding the complexity of odontogenic tumors, enabling better diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and ultimately improved patient care and outcomes.
With extensive expertise in Epithelial Odontogenic Tumor research as well as an advanced platform, Alta Stomatology can provide services of histological analysis, immunohistochemical analysis, and molecular analysis. Alta Stomatology focuses on identifying better diagnostic methods, and understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of the tumors.
